Fishing is one of the oldest sports. It is relaxing and nice activity to do with your father or kids. Many people however, do not really know how to fish. Below are a few how-to's that answer common questions about fishing.

1. Tie fishing knots

There are a few dozen fishing knots that are all used in different instances. Fishing knots are divided into line-to-line knots, loop knots, terminal connections, and miscellaneous. Fishermen must choose which knot they need to use and tie it as tightly as possible. Before drawing it tight however, the knot should be lubricated with water or saliva.

2. Make fishing floats

Fishing floats serve two critical purposes. First, they suspend the bait at a predetermined depth, then they indicate to the fisherman when a fish has latched onto their bait. Before building your own float, decide on the size and shape you want, and paint it the colour you like. Then paint on several coats of polyurethane sealant. Continue to sand it down after each coat dries, until it is done.

3. Fly fish

Most fly fishermen focus on catching trout, although they will fish anything and everything from bass to sharks. As long as anglers are abiding by the laws of the district they are fishing in then fly fishing can take place anywhere, at any time. Fly fishermen practice the sport in creeks, oceans, and lakes.

4. Surf fish

That's right, surf fishing is done from a surf board. This specialised style of fishing utilizes roads that are 10-12 feet long, and are capable of slinging 6 ounces of lead weight 100 yards beyond the breaking surf. Surf fishing can be done on almost any coastline throughout the world. The tactics of the sport remain the same, even if the shorelines differ.

5. Build a fishing pond

Building a fishing pond means that you can enjoy the relaxing sport right in your own backyard. Begin by setting up a space that is large enough for fish to roam around in. Test the quality of your dirt by digging a small hole and pouring water into it. If it's good, then dig a larger hole that will be your pond. If the earth is not suitable then line the hole with a piece of plastic. Put wet land plants into the water so that fish can feed on and live amongst the plants of their natural habitats. Pour in the water and then let it settle. Then put in the fish and enjoy your new pond.
