In today's techy world it seems that 'digital agency' has become as much of an umbrella term as 'marketing agency'. But digital can mean many things, from graphic design to advertising, online marketing, media or creative agencies.

Graphic design:

Graphic design is a form of visual communication, involving the creation and organisation of visual elements to convey a message or information to an audience. In marketing, graphic design is used to create messages that persuade, motivate, identify and engage their audience. Graphic designers work together with their clients to create a design that will properly reflect the brand values of the company while also encouraging the audience to take a certain action.

Advertising:

Advertising is a branch of marketing used to persuade an audience to either buy a product, use a service or believe an idea. Commercial companies use 'branding' techniques to increase consumption of their products. Integrated advertising agencies have independent departments for television, print, radio, online and outdoor. Brands use agencies to do their marketing because they understand what consumers will respond to.

Marketing:

Marketing is about strategising over how to sell products/services, communicate messages and develop business models. The first step in deciding to start a business or launch a specific product is to carry out thorough market research. A company first must gauge whether there is a market for their product or service, then who they are and what type of messages they will respond to. After deciding on the content of the marketing campaign, companies must then determine where the campaign would be most effectively placed.

Media:

Media agencies work with their clients to determine which communication channels would be most effective to attract their target audience. Such channels include, PR, events, direct marketing, digital media, sponsorship and more.

Digital agencies do all of the above on the internet. Internet marketing agencies take advantage of the measurable data they can access and design websites and plan content around those findings. Creative digital agencies work to create compelling campaigns using digital technology and then promoting them through online channels.

Digital marketing at the most basic level offers small businesses the chance to be seen for an affordable cost. However, those companies with a big budget are often encouraged by their agencies to integrate their online campaigns with offline marketing, as a mixed marketing campaign has the ability to attract a very wide audience.
