When decorating a room, a lot of people forget about the ceiling, yet there is nothing more grand then tall ceilings, nothing more majestic then a beautifully painted one, and nothing more intimidating then a ceiling that looks like it's going to fall in on you. Here are explanations that should answer all of your 'how-to' questions about ceilings.
1. How to texture ceilings:
Texturing a ceiling can create a bold statement and really enhance a room. Methods of achieving the texture you want might involve using old paintbrushes, wallpaper brushes, or sponges. With these items you can stroke, swirl, stencil, even use your finger to create creative designs in the newly wet (fresh drywall coat) surface.
2. How to cover up textured ceilings:
Sometimes the industrial look is suitable for a room. In the right space pipes and vents can look rather cool, avant-garde, rough. But in other spaces they are eye-sores that should be covered up. An easy solution for this is to suspend fabric from the ceiling. In addition to covering unsightly views, the fabric can add a new, and possibly dramatic, element to the room.
3. How to make ceilings look taller:
Tall ceilings can make a room look enchanting and grand, but not all of us have the luxury of living in a home that has them. Some eye-deceiving tricks include:
-Using a wallpaper of vertical stripes
-Adding height to your windows- either by actually making them taller, or painting vertical stripes above and below them
-Painting your ceiling with a flat colour
-Decorate the room with tall, narrow furniture
4. How to insulate ceilings:
The point of insulating your ceiling is to:
-Keep your home warm without having to break your bank on electricity bills
-Lower the wear and tear of your boiler
-Be more eco-friendly/sustainable
-Lessen the chances of contracting health problems associated with damp and draughts
5. How to stucco ceilings:
Stucco is made of some sort of 'binder' substance combined with water. It is used for coating walls and ceilings for decoration. It can also be used to cover up less visually appealing surfaces such as concrete, brick, or cinder block. Stucco has been used to decorate the outside and inside of buildings throughout history.
There are a number of reasons why someone might need to amend their ceiling in some way. Whether it be for warmth, aesthetics, space, or the illusion of space, I hope that some of these tips have been helpful.
