In the last five years the world has seen a surge in the number of digital companies that have sprung up. The bar has been raised for big advertising agencies. Given the young and fresh nature of most digital companies, they have a chance to reach that bar but they have to be able to offer something new and exciting. If brands are to trust a team of young people to do their online marketing, they need to believe that the team is keeping on top of all the latest trends. That they are working with the best developers and the most artistic designers to build products, and the most creative strategists to launch campaigns that no one will have ever seen before.
Digital agencies that take too long to develop their skills could very well find themselves in a place where those skills are no longer needed. Or even if they are needed by some companies, the big companies they want as clients, don't need them at all. Every company wants to grow and evolve. They want to take on bigger clients who have bigger budgets to spend. But bigger clients don't want run of the mill campaigns, they want something completely unique. In order to get their business, companies have to show that they are working on similar projects. Even if they aren't working on them for paying clients the point is that they are thinking outside of the box and building something that they believe could be huge.
